Lucky Foods for New Year’s Day

I have always loved, loved, loved it when it’s time to ring in the New Year!  Out with the old and in with the new and all that jazz.  I’m SO curious what all my friends out there in 100 Calorie Land traditionally have for New Year’s Day.  Let me know and I’ll share it with the world.

You know, in my family we’re a bunch of Florida Crackers, so our New Year’s menu always included foods that we would have throughout the year.  I can almost hear Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies proudly announcing our menu.  Our "vittles" will be Blackeyed Peas with Hog Jowls, Collard Greens and Cornbread.  Blackeyed Peas are thought to be lucky because they look like coins and Collard Greens represent money.  All that pork?  It is thought that if you eat pork on New Year’s Day, you’ll live "high on the hog" all year; eat chicken and you’ll scratch.  We also always have Corned Beef and Cabbage, yum.  Cabbage is also thought to be lucky because of its resemblence to money.

    Black eyed peas; yummy!!!
I also like to cook cornbread and tomato gravy with a big  pot of grits.  Now that’s about as far down South as you can get. Love your site and keep those recipes coming.
I can feel the pounds leaving my body with all those 100 calorie foods.
